Crizia Giansalvo is a Berlin-based Italian music collector and writer with an impeccable taste in music. And as you can tell, she is our first special guest to curate a selection of thematic cover songs!
Recently, Crizia has been pondering on how punks hated the hippies but still, the 60's clearly had an influence on punk music. She wanted to find out which bands/songs influenced punks the most. One such definitive band was the Velvet Underground but the impact of 60's garage rock was also essential - and surprise surprise, Nancy Sinatra (and as a matter of fact, Lee Hazlewood) also influenced punks. As Crizia would tell you ‘I’ve found so many covers of These boots are made for walking’. Well, this infectious song clearly has an effect on everyone and our listeners can already confirm this by now.
We at Cleptorama cherish bands who search, destroy and then rebuild a song in their own unique style, especially the ones who are simply unable to overdo it.... 3 chords, DIY approach and complete, uncompromising artistic freedom. Enjoy!
